A new Southwest Airlines promotion will let travelers pick someone to fly free with in the first few months of 2023.
The airline is offering Companion Passes to members of its frequent flyer program for travel between Jan. 4 and March 4.
“We know that flexibility and ease have become even more important for our customers, and this offer is a way to remind our members about the unique benefits of our award-winning Rapid Rewards program,” Southwest’s vice president of marketing loyalty and products Jonathan Clarkson said in a statement. “We’re thrilled to bring back this popular offer, making it easier for new and loyal Customers to travel with their special someone.”

Normally a coveted frequent flyer benefit, Southwest’s Companion Passes are essentially unlimited buy-one-get-one-free tickets. The airline allows pass holders to designate a fellow traveler who can accompany them on their trips for free.
To qualify, Southwest Rapid Rewards members usually need to fly at least 100 one-way flights or earn at least 125,000 qualifying points in a calendar year.
The designated companion can be changed up to three times while a pass is active.
