Behold, the greatest luxury holidays of 2022.
“If we took a holiday, took some time to celebrate, just one day out of life, it would be so nice,” sings Madonna in her 1983 hit ‘Holiday’.
The Queen of Pop wasn’t wrong; it’s nice to take some time out if or when you can, as we won’t lie – life can be overwhelming and stressful sometimes.
Hence, we’ve put together a guide to discover the type of holiday most suited to you, what luxury actually means, plus 2022’s top luxury destinations.
So what are you waiting for? Keep scrolling!

There are so many types of holidays that it can be hard to choose just the one. To throw further confusion into the mix, it also depends on what you like doing, whether you want to go alone or in a group, how far you want to travel, and your budget.
To help you decide, we’ve narrowed it down to the top five holiday types that we think you should consider for your next break.
Who doesn’t love a city break? This type of holiday is particularly popular in Europe, and we can see why. Within just a few hours on a plane or train, you can be in a beautiful, cultural European city eating local cuisine, sipping on a chilled beverage, sightseeing and exploring ancient architecture to your heart’s content.
There must be something in the British public’s DNA that makes all of us love a hot tub. But unsurprisingly it’s not something that a regular household owns, seeing as they can cost anything from a few hundred to a few thousand pounds to install and maintain. Enter: the hot tub holiday. Exactly as it sounds — this type of holiday is your chance to relax in luxury. Just add friends and wine.
When we think of a holiday, it’s hard not to think of ‘sun, sea and sand’. Therefore, beach holidays have to be up there as one of our preferred kinds of vacation. And luckily for us, we’re spoilt for choice in terms of destination.
Whether you go abroad or stick to the good old British coast, beautiful beaches can be found both near and far. Another thing? It doesn’t even have to be hot to enjoy the beach; going for a walk along the coast is enjoyable no matter the season.
An ideal way to make memories with the family is to go on holiday together and revel in uninterrupted quality time. Pack a ton of sunscreen, mosquito repellent, snacks and easy entertaining games to play (we love family favourite, UNO), and settle in for the ride. You’ll cherish these times together for years to come.
Don’t let singledom hold you back from going on a luxe holiday. Whether you’re a seasoned solo traveller or it’s your first time going it alone, you can do it! Make and meet new friends along the way, all whilst gaining new life experiences and adventures on your own terms. These holidays are one of the only times you’re able to be completely self-indulgent — and we’re here for it!
What ‘luxury’ actually means will differ from person to person. Your bestie may think luxury is a weekend glamping, while your mum may think of it as an all-inclusive Spanish holiday and your partner may see it as a few days off exploring a new city.
Whatever it means to you and your loved ones, just know this: a luxurious holiday should offer unique opportunities to do what you want. It should provide you with new places to go, things to see, experiences to be had — and, most importantly, it should be unforgettable.
Now we’re down to the nitty gritty. As mentioned, a luxurious holiday is defined by you, but having completed extensive research, we’ve nailed down these destinations as the most popular for 2022.
So without further ado, the awards for the most popular luxurious holiday destinations go to…
Greece has smashed it in terms of holiday popularity for 2022, and we can’t say we’re surprised. It has everything you could want in a holiday: beautiful sandy beaches and clear waters, ancient history and culture, delicious food (the Greek salads are simply on another level), island hopping, nightlife and more. While summer is peak travel season, the autumn months are also a great time to go: not only is it much cheaper then, but it will also still be hot with warm seas.
Once in a lifetime experience: Dinner in the Sky, Athens. Eat a six course meal of traditional Greek dishes at a restaurant in the sky, taking in the incredible view of Athens at night.

Home to pop superstar Rihanna, Barbados immediately conjures visions of idyllic beaches, palm trees, rum cocktails and Caribbean vibes. But it has so much more to offer than that; you can partake in a sailing excursion, munch on the traditional freshly fried fish in the local markets, hit Bridgetown for a spot of shopping, or visit the Barbados Wildlife Reserve.
Once in a lifetime experience: To be frank, there’re too many to choose from. TUI list some great options here. From boogie boarding on Maxwell beach, to dancing in the nightclubs of St Lawrence Gap, to scuba diving amongst the coral reefs, you won’t be short of unforgettable experiences.

This one’s a biggie. It’s no lie that the USA is one heck of a big country (said in a southern twang), and there were three places that came out on top to visit in 2022. And they’re all easily accessible from the UK, thanks to Virgin Atlantic’s regular and reliable flight paths.
The first being New York, New York. Known as the city of dreams, the city that never sleeps, the city where you go to make it…New York holidays are extremely popular this year, and every year to be honest (this Junior Editor also visited NY for her 30th birthday). A few days is all you need to pack everything in — just take comfy walking shoes and brace yourself for a city that lives life at 100mph.
Once in a lifetime experience: Er, where do we start? Seeing the sun set on top of the Empire State Building, getting the ferry to see the Statue of Liberty and going up the Rockefeller Tower are just a few things to get you started.

Florida holidays are also big news in 2022. Whether it’s the forever appeal of Walt Disney World (a classic family holiday, no?), the call of the beautiful beaches in Miami, or to see countless parks, gardens and attractions, we reckon you won’t regret paying the Sunshine State a visit.
Once in a lifetime experience: Swimming with manatees. Almost half of the world’s West Indies manatee population live in Florida.

“VEGAS!” We hear you squeal. Yes, Vegas tends to have that effect on people. Famous for a myriad of reasons, including the fact that the Las Vegas Strip is visible from space, you can be married by Elvis (à la Bennifer) and of course the wild casino scene — Vegas is hugely popular for once in a lifetime holidays. Book your Vegas adventure and celebrate milestone birthdays, weddings, honeymoons, and hen and stag parties.
Once in a lifetime experience: For us, it’s 100% a visit to the Grand Canyon. If you really want to push the boat out, hire a helicopter to view the spectacle from above.

One for the Christmas holidays! Speaking from experience, there’s nothing more magical than trudging through freshly fallen snow, sipping mulled wine as you look up at the black sky dotted with sparkling stars at night, or taking a ride on a reindeer sleigh or husky sledge. Ideal for couples and young families, there’s nothing more ‘once in a lifetime,’ than Lapland holidays.
Once in a lifetime experience: All of it; you won’t experience anything like Lapland elsewhere. A special experience for kids would be to take a trip to Santa’s cabin home. For adults, we recommend venturing to Luosto and Hetta to see the Northern Lights.

Head to the home of reggae for great music, pristine white beaches, mountains, banana plantations and waterfalls. Whether you’ve come to relax or for adventure, there’s plenty to keep you entertained. Set off for Montego Bay (Mo-Bay to the locals) for river rafting and safaris, hit the Kool Runnings adventure park for the waterslides of dreams, or visit Kingston to experience the beating heart of Jamaica.
If you want to chill, that’s easy – the beaches are beautiful, and you can find secluded ones if you travel further up the coast, such as Runaway Bay. Feast on spicy jerk chicken, ackee and saltfish at the beach bars and stay until sunset to see the sky transform into glorious pinks, reds and oranges.
Once in a lifetime experience: Visit Bob Marley’s house in Nine Mile, and the nearby Ethiopian church where he was laid to rest with his guitar.

We’ve travelled around the world in this article, and outlined the key holiday types suited to every traveller. And, while we know you’d have a wonderful luxury holiday in any of these destinations — be it for a quick city getaway or a beachside retreat — our top picks would be Barbados (as it’s essentially paradise), Vegas for stacks of unforgettable fun, and Lapland for pure Christmas magic.
Happy travels!
